This San Jose neighborhood is the hottest real estate market in the entire country - Silicon Valley is known for its notoriously crazy prices, as the real estate market has exploded with a booming tech economy and an abundance of high-paying jobs. The most recent report from CoreLogic reveals that home prices in Santa Clara County reached a new peak of $1 million in December, up 24.2 percent from December 2016. To develop its list, Redfin looked at those neighborhoods that saw the most visits to home listings. While Bucknall with a median sale price of $1.565 million in December 2017 is at the top, Cambrian, sandwiched between downtown Campbell and Willow Glen, had a median sale price of $1.244 million and came in second. In December 2017, all homes sold above their listed price in both neighborhoods. White Oak between Campbell and Los Gatos had a list price of $1.010 million in December 2017 and came in third.

Bay Area rents likely to stay sky high - Bay Area renters hit with high prices and few choices last year may be in for more of the same in 2018. Rates for one- and two-bedroom apartments in San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose last year stayed among the highest in the nation, according to new market reports. Scarce rentals and a robust local economy marked by steady tech hiring drove up Santa Clara County prices 3.2 percent from a year ago, according to real estate data firm Yardi Matrix.

150 San Jose Flood Victims Demand Their Day in Court - The complaint, which has yet to be filed in Santa Clara County Superior Court, comes after nearly 400 victims of the post-President’s Day weekend flood filed claims for $18 million damages. They say that the defendant agencies failed to properly design and maintain its storm sewers, flapper valves along the river and the park in Rock Springs. They contend that the agencies failed to establish and supervise emergency shelters and failed to provide housing for low-income families.

Packing up and moving out: Bay Area exodus continues - Efforts to move out of the Bay Area continued in recent months, with 16,000 residents packing up and taking to the road for cheaper housing and new opportunities. A study by real estate brokerage Redfin found the Bay Area remains the top region for outward migration in the country. The most popular destination for Bay Area refugees remains Sacramento, followed by other tech hubs and California cities. “It’s pretty much in line with what we’ve seen for the past few years,” said Taylor Marr, senior economist at Redfin. “Many people leaving the Bay Area are still looking in California.”

Will Bitcoin Revolutionize How Real Estate Is Bought and Sold?  Folks who began accumulating bitcoin before its meteoric rise have found themselves rolling in some newfound dough lately. And increasingly, some of them are unloading their riches on high-ticket purchases such as furniture, cars, even luxury homes, before bitcoin's high values come back to Earth.
