Bay Area rents: still rising, but starting to level off - The average apartment in San Jose now rents for $2,503 -- up 4.0 percent from the second quarter of last year, though that's less than half of the 8.6 percent increase reported in the first quarter.

Facebook’s Answer to Silicon Valley Housing Crunch: Build Apartments - in an effort to shore up city support, Facebook earlier this month made an unusual pledge for a tech company. It would build at least 1,500 units of housing, meant not specifically for Facebook employees, but for the general public. The novel move is a gesture intended to address a growing frustration in the region: too many workers, too few homes.

U.S. Homeowners Will Spend $321 Billion on Remodeling and Repairs This Year - Home renovations are on the rise, according to the Leading Indicator of Remodeling Activity (LIRA) just released by the Remodeling Futures Program at Harvard University. The amount of spending on home remodeling and repair is expected to increase 8 percent by the start of 2017, while the historical average is just 4.9 percent.

Bay Area's best up-and-coming neighborhoods to invest in - "While the Bay Area's identity is dominated by beautiful, booming San Francisco, its soul increasingly seems to reside in the East Bay," the New York Times said, noting "Alameda County's glorious inland climate, thriving arts scene and a vibrant culinary culture."

Verizon to gain Yahoo’s Silicon Valley real estate - With its $4.8 billion acquisition of Yahoo, Verizon has snatched up an internet pioneer with a massive audience. But it has also secured something equally coveted in Silicon Valley: real estate. When the deal closes, the New York telecom giant will become one of the largest office landlords in the nation’s technology hub thanks to the roughly 1 million-square-foot campus Yahoo owns in Sunnyvale, Calif. — a desirable position amid the current tech boom.

3 White Kitchens, 3 Different Styles - A few key accents can make one all-white kitchen look and feel completely distinct from another. Some of my faves:
