Low inventory may take bloom off spring home sales - Due to weak supply, home prices are heating up again, which could be bad news for the spring market since sticker shock contributed to weak sales in 2014. According to Realtor.com, there were nearly 9 percent fewer homes for sale in January of this year than there were a year ago. While demand is high, limited supply is creating a roadblock. Overall, high prices mixed with weak supply caused an unexpectedly large drop in January home sales, down nearly 5 percent from January of 2014.

Why Silicon Valley has a chance to dominate the auto industry - Cars in 2035 could look as different from cars today as today's iPhone looks from a PC circa 1995. A number of industries — trucking, restaurants, retail stores, delivery services, public transit, real estate — will adapt to the new capabilities of self-driving vehicles, making those vehicles increasingly central to the economy. And people will develop totally new services using self-driving vehicles that are hard to imagine today.

At center of Silicon Valley Boom 2.0, San Jose remains broke - The Silicon Valley economy may be booming, but its self-professed capital, the city of San Jose, is hardly paving the streets with gold. The home of eBay, Cisco and Adobe can't keep libraries open full time, plug most potholes or staff a police force that can investigate many burglaries.

Several Silicon Valley Cities Have Fastest Increasing Home Values in Nation, Report Finds - This may not come as a surprise to local residents who are currently house hunting, but a new report out this week has found that the Silicon Valley region has some of the fastest increasing real estate values in the nation.
According to Nerd Wallet, 9 of the top 20 cities with the fastest increasing home values accross America were right here in the Bay Area, most of those in Silicon Valley.

Top CA Dems team up on affordable housing - Assembly Speaker Toni Atkins and Treasurer John Chiang are tackling the issue of affordable housing with joint efforts to solve one of California’s most pressing problems. Atkins is pushing a series of bills that will spur the development of moderate and low-income housing. Overall, supply of new housing has fallen far short of demand by thousands of residences annually. Chiang has launched a six-month effort to bring together developers, government officials, finance experts, and others in order to find solutions.

Soak It Up: How to Manage Stormwater in Your Landscape - Permeable paving, gravel beds and planted areas in your yard can absorb and cleanse stormwater runoff. Some of my favorites:
